Dolphin watching boat tour – what to expect

Departure from Setúbal, sailing on the Sado River and start looking for dolphins to observe in their natural habitat. We will pass by Albarquel beach, the Comenda Palace and the Outão lighthouse which announces the entry into ocean waters.

Be amazed by the unique view over the beaches of Figueirinha, Galapos, Coelhos, Creiro and Portinho da Arrábida with their turquoise blue waters.

We may visit Alpertuche beach and the cliffs of Arrábida, observing some caves, as well as the small islands located at the mouth of the Sado river.

However, the dazzling light and beauty resulting from the contrast between the mountains and the sea cannot make us forget the main objective of our trip: to observe dolphins in their natural habitat. Our skipper will change the order of this itinerary depending on this main objective, allowing us to sail out to sea in search of these friendly wild animals.

We will observe bottlenose dolphins, which have a community in the Sado River, or common dolphins normally found in the open sea.

Dolphins are wild animals and are not always found in the same place. Our boat encounters them on about 99% of the boat trips. If you are included in the remaining 1%, you will be entitled to a free voucher to repeat the experience.

The activity lasts an average of 2 hours and 30 minutes, but can be extended for up to 30 more minutes if the search for dolphins turns to be more difficult than usual.

You will observe a unique community of dolphins, of the bottlenose dolphin species, which have permanent residence in the Sado River estuary.

This species is more corpulent than the common dolphin and has a darker tone, close to anthracite gray.

You can also see common dolphins, which are smaller and extremely fast.

Dolphins are wild and unpredictable animals. We will spot them in different locations, which makes this a unique and unrepeatable experience.

Speaking of speed, our boat is quite fast, which is a great advantage when it comes to finding dolphins, which are wild animals that travel many nautical miles in a short time. Therefore, our success rate in finding these friendly mammals is around 100%.

Furthermore, our boat, due to its characteristics, allows you to observe the dolphins very closely. This way, you can take fantastic photos and videos of the experience to share with your family and friends.

Our boat has the best safety conditions and is practically unsinkable. It has an inflatable raft and passengers are required to wear a life jacket. We are also equipped with a VHF radio and our skipper is an expert in maritime safety.
